Patti Chanthaphone Featured on the IMPACT: Women in Leadership Podcast

Patti Chanthaphone, Chief Cybersecurity Solutions Officer at Tyto Athene, was recently featured on the IMPACT: Women in Leadership podcast, hosted by Mary Ann Brown of FORUM. In the episode titled “Women Leading the Future of Cybersecurity and Mission-Critical Technology,” Patti brings her 20+ years of public-sector cybersecurity experience to a candid conversation about innovation, leadership, and the evolving threat landscape facing federal agencies and defense organizations. From her early days bridging criminal justice and IT to architecting the largest Managed Shared Service Provider (MSSP) serving the federal government, Patti’s story is a testament to the power of curiosity, conviction, and building the right team.

Key Takeaways:

  1. Building the federal government’s first government-wide MSSP: Patti spearheaded the creation of the first government-wide cybersecurity Managed Shared Service Provider, now the largest MSSP serving federal agencies — certified by both the Department of Homeland Security and the Office of Management and Budget. The program, built within the Department of Justice, focused on breaking down silos between agencies to enable faster information sharing, collaborative threat response, and interoperable cybersecurity platforms. Patti sees this model as a blueprint now being explored by other agencies.
  2. Data dominance is in Tyto Athene’s DNA: At the heart of Tyto Athene’s cybersecurity philosophy is the principle of data dominance: ensuring that data remains confidential, its integrity intact, and always available to the operators who need it. Patti frames the threat environment not as if an attack will happen, but when; and the mission is to get the right information to the right people as fast as possible so they can make informed decisions. AI and automation are key accelerators in that mission, always with a human in the loop for critical thinking and response.
  3. Innovation meets zero trust: Tyto Athene has been proactive in integrating AI capabilities and zero trust architecture into its cybersecurity services. Rather than overhauling existing systems, Patti’s approach is to integrate with what agencies already have, consolidate disparate tools, and automate the collection and delivery of telemetry data — all with the goal of reducing the attack surface for mission partners.
  4. Mentorship as a multiplier: As one of relatively few women who entered cybersecurity leadership early in her career, Patti is intentional about paying it forward. She credits strong mentorship as a key factor in her own growth and now prioritizes mentoring the next generation of women in cyber, emphasizing confidence, communication, and building trusted professional networks.

“Don’t wait for permission to lead. Take action. Any idea is a great idea. Just be confident and expressing that is a strength. If you’re passionate in this field, you always have an idea to offer.”
